Community Check-In

How are we doing as a community? As a region?

How well do we work together?

Are we welcoming and engaging all the voices and talents in our community?

Asking these questions, and the conversation that follows, are the first steps in building the kind of vibrant and thriving neighbourhood, community and region we want to live in – a community that comes together to take on the next challenge.

Here in Newfoundland and Labrador, we've had our share of tough times. As the challenges keep coming, seemingly larger and more complex, it is more important than ever to understand each other and work together in ways that tap into all the skills, knowledge and resources present in our communities and regions.

The Community Check-In tool is designed to support these conversations and the people across Newfoundland and Labrador who see a greater untapped potential for their communities and regions - a potential unleashed by finding ways of working, creating solutions, and building hope together.

The Harris Centre uses the Community Check-In tool through our Thriving Regions Partnership Process (TRPP). However, all of the resources on this site - including the tool itself - are available for download and use by anyone interested in hosting a conversation.

If you would like to use the Community Check-In tool in your community, network or region, feel free to get in touch with us. We are glad to have a chat, answer your questions and help you consider your options.

In the meantime, we invite you to:

  1. Explore the resources on this page and become more comfortable with talking about these topics.
  2. Download and use the toolkit. Start a conversation with your family, friends, neighbours or co-workers and see where it goes.
  3. Share your stories, ideas and questions below. Let's get better at creating connected, engaged and thriving places capable of taking on that next challenge.

And don't forget to let us know how it goes. We look forward to hearing from you!

The Community Check-In Toolkit was developed with the support, guidance and input from leadership of CBDC-Trinity Conception and Legendary Coasts of Eastern Newfoundland. In addition, we thank the dozens of community leaders from across Newfoundland and Labrador who reviewed and provided feedback on earlier versions of this toolkit.

The process for developing the Community Check-In Toolkit was made possible by the financial support of Memorial's Office of Public Engagement Quick Start Fund for Public Engagement.
